You Just Never Know …

Every Tuesday I go to Chinese University. This is the closest university to where we live. The day starts with a prayer meeting at 7:15am. About 30-40 students regularly turn up to pray for the campus for about an hour. After that we have breakfast together followed by a staff meeting. We have access to a common room with an office located in a door off to one side, which is very handy for ministry

After the staff meeting I meet with Tim. Tim is a Canadian-Chinese student who is having an exchange year in Hong Kong. What makes things a little more complicated is that his parents have also just returned from Canada to resettle in Hong Kong. Tim has a real desire to reach out to his fellow international students (He sees himself as much Canadian as Chinese) and we are working together to organise outreaches to these students. I really enjoy my time with Tim – he is so eager to learn and we have lots of fun talking about all sorts of things. Since we are both ‘outsiders’ in Hong Kong we can understand each other about some of the things we find a little unusual here. Tim started to come along to Campus Crusade for Christ when he was a student back in Canada, and last (northern) summer he went on a mission project to Africa. This has probably been the most influential period in his spiritual growth. Today I noticed a rubber bracelet he was wearing and asked him what it was – he showed me it said “YJNK – You Just Never Know” and it was the motto they had during the project in Africa. It reminded them to take every opportunity to share the gospel because … You Just Never Know …

I thought it was a great idea, and a good reminder for everyone who has the opportunity to experience a mission project to remind themselves of the passion they had during that time, and not to let it fade away.
