Staying Sane in Hong Kong

Last semester Tim and  I decided to run an outreach for international students at the beginning of this semester. We put our heads together and ended up with an event called “Staying Sane in Hong Kong” which provides some survival tips for international students here. We contacted the International Student Office and they were very helpful and even sent out emails to all the international students and put up posters for us. Then two weeks ago, I got a message from one of the CCC staff at Chinese University about a student who had contacted us and wanted to get involved. I contacted him (his name’s Robbie) and he was really keen to get involved. He’s from California, but studying at Wheaton College (of Billy Graham and Jim Elliot fame) and he is a really enthusiastic and outgoing guy. The next week I got another message about another student who had contacted us, and then I met another international student at our meeting. Then another email with another international student’s contact details. Then at church I meet Robbie and he has brought four friends to church with him from the hostel! One of these friends (her name’s Colleen) was involved with CCC in Canada. In invite them to come to our meeting today to prepare for the outreach on Thursday, and she brings a friend with her, and apologies from another friend who wanted to come but couldn’t make it. All of a sudden, in about two weeks, God has brought almost a dozen students aong who want to get involved in reaching out to their fellow students, and this has been without us really doing anything. We are running the “Staying Sane in Hong Kong” outreach on Thursday night and hopefully many of these students will be able to not only come along, but bring their friends and share the gospel with their friends as a result of this. Please pray for God to continue working in the hearts of international students at CU, and that we would follow Him faithfully in bringing his good news to this campus.

YRC

Tomorrow is Hong Kong Campus Crusade for Christ’s Youth Revival Conference (YRC). It runs for three days and includes worship, teaching and training and outreach.

This is one of the high points of the year for CCC in Hong Kong and there will be many students from all of our seven campuses attending.

In Hong Kong, as you might imagine, there aren’t many places available for these sorts of events and it just so happens that the main one is just a short walk from our place. Amy remembers going there as a child and it being so far out that the main way to get there was by ferry. How times have changed!

A couple of things to pray about:

On the Saturday evening Karl will be meeting with Dr Simon Yu and some of CCC’s science studeents to discuss an outreach we are planning for UST (the University of Science and Technology). Pray that we have a fruitful discussion and are able to make the first steps into putting this outreach together.

On the Sunday we will have a major outreach in a government housing block in Cheung Sha Wan. For many of the students attending this will be a major step of faith, and hopefully many of the residents there will hear and respond to the gospel.

Thanks for your prayers.

In Christ,
Karl and Amy
