As you’re no doubt aware, Harold Camping has predicted the end of the world for May 21.
In the last week my twitter has gone crazy with tweets both serious and cynical about the prediction.
- Just off to do some rapture practice #rapture it consists of jumping up as high as you can without a trampoline
- If you need to provide for your pets after the rapture on Saturday eternal-earthbound-pets.com
- The Rapture is happening tomorrow – I`ll be live tweeting it. It`ll be all over in a “twinkling of a tweet”, I suspect

I wonder how The Rapture works at the International Dateline. I bet it feels like dejavu.
-
In honor of the world ending tomorrow (Saturday) I have put off returning all library books and will pay bills on Monday.
- I guess on Sunday when the #Rapture people feel really upset, we can’t console them by saying “Cheer up, it’s not the end of the world”.
They included a link to this article about the history of rapture predictions.
Of course, Jesus explicitly said that “no one knows the day or the hour”, so any prediction is based on very flimsy ground to start off with.
For me, I am reminded of the story of when Martin Luther was asked what he would do if he knew that Jesus was returning tomorrow. He said he would plant a tree.
Why? Because when Jesus returns he wants to find us doing what we should be doing, and being good stewards of all God has given us.
