We both got involved in Campus Crusade for Christ during our time at university (Karl at Victoria University of Wellington, and Amy at the University of Auckland). We both also had experience in the secular workforce before joining Campus Crusade for Christ full-time – Karl at the Ministry of Education, and Amy at Cathay Pacific.
We both began our full-time ministry at the University of Auckland before we began leading the fledgling ministry at Massey University’s Albany Campus in 2001. While there Karl trained two new staff – Aaron Ku and Nigel Owen. During the two years we were there we were able to see the size of the movement grow to more than four times the size when we started.
In 2003 we took over the leadership of the Student Life campus ministry at the University of Waikato. We took over at a time when the movement at Waikato had shrunk to just a handful of students. In our two years there Amy trained two new staff (Ruth Ku and Lily Su) and were able to provide a solid base to hand over to the Darin and Tina Bufkin to lead in 2005.
In 2005 a combination of factors led us to re-evaluate our ministry direction and we applied to transfer to Hong Kong to join the campus ministry there. It had been a long-time goal of ours to spend some time serving in Hong Kong, and it appeared that now was the right time for us to take that opportunity.
Since 2006 Karl has been serving as part of the Chinese University campus team. Since 2007 Karl has also been involved developing evangelism tools, strategies and resources for the wider Hong Kong ministry. In 2009 we begin leading the ministry at Hong Kong Institute of Education
We are committed to serving in Hong Kong for the next few years.
