We both got involved in Student Life during our time at university (Karl at Victoria University of Wellington, and Amy at the University of Auckland). We both also had experience in the secular workforce before joining Tandem full-time – Karl at the Ministry of Education, and Amy at Cathay Pacific.
We both began our full-time ministry at the University of Auckland before we began leading the fledgling ministry at Massey University’s Albany Campus in 2001. During the two years we were there we were able to see the size of the movement grow to more than four times the size when we started.
In 2003 we took over the leadership of the Student Life campus ministry at the University of Waikato. We took over at a time when the movement at Waikato had shrunk to just a handful of students. In our two years there we were able to provide a solid base to hand over to new leadership in 2005.
In 2005 a combination of factors led us to re-evaluate our ministry direction and we applied to transfer to Hong Kong to join the campus ministry there. It had been a long-time goal of ours to spend some time serving in Hong Kong, and it appeared that now was the right time for us to take that opportunity.
From 2006-2009 Karl served as part of HKCCC’s Chinese University campus team. Since 2009 Karl led HKCCC’s Creative Evangelism Team as they developed new and innovative strategies such as YingSeung, pre-evangelistic short films, and online strategies.
In 2014 we began our transition back to New Zealand by serving for a year with Cru’s Global Digital Strategies team in Orlando. Now we have returned to New Zealand and Karl is the Digital Strategies Director for Tandem Ministries.
